Han Chiao's poetry is a vast balancing act. On the one hand, there is her ceramic production, with its archaic inspiration, and on the other hand, her photographic work with its mysterious grain. A global practice, in two times, which tells his intimate universe, between tradition and modernity.

Han Chiao is a Taiwanese-born creative artist with a multi-disciplinary background. It was during her studies in photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology that she first came into contact with the earth. A contact that she would find again a few years later, as a matter of course, after moving to Paris and working as a photographer in the fashion industry. If working with images has given her the opportunity to sharpen her eye and develop her pictorial touch, ceramics has allowed her to reveal herself through an inner look. Two practices that she deploys in two stages and that manage to tell her experimental universe with audacity and precision.

Starting from elementary forms, Han Chiao has the art and the way to bring a touch of singularity to them: Siamese vases, carnivorous jars, sets of handles, glaze drips... Principles that offer a part of curiosity to his creations and give them a status of unique pieces with subtle flaws. An instinctive process that says a lot about the practice of ceramics: the time, the gesture and the beauty of the understanding between a craftsman and his material.
